Gossip Girl is an American television teen drama based on the popular novel series of the same name, written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of socialite young adults growing up on New York City’s Upper East Side who attend elite academic institutions while dealing with sex, drugs, jealousy, and other teenage issues. The story is narrated through the eyes of an unseen and omniscient character, Gossip Girl who maintains a popular commentary blog that contains all the juicy details of what’s happening to the most ‘populence’ and talked-about members of the elite New York Upper East Side Scene. On top of whom are Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf (portrayed by Blake Lively and Leighton Meester respectively). The relationship of the two vixens was further damaged by the fact that Blair’s boyfriend, Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) has feelings for Serena. In the course of the story, it appears that Serena slept with Nate which became the reason for her sudden exodus from the elite community.

Being trapped in his relationship with Blair, being constantly manipulated by his family, and not being able to be with the woman he loves, Nate grew up with much angst against the society he lives in. Nate’s hatred is to be compounded by his childhood friend’s, Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), influence. Chuck is a manipulative and morally corrupt spoiled rich kid who would not bat an eyelash about abusing others to satisfy his own needs. Despite his nature, he has a soft spot for his best friend, Nate, and Blair. Later in the season, Chuck would realize that he has feelings for Blair.

When Serena comes back from her self-imposed exile, she finds herself an outcast in the privileged society she used to rule. Instead of welcoming arms from friends, she received dagger looks of betrayal from people who were once her allies. In the midst of teenage rivalry, she soon finds a friend in Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), son of a former rock star turned gallery owner, Rufus Humphrey (Matthew Settle). Dan and his younger sister Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) face an enormous challenge to fit in to their new elite environment. To make matters more complicated in the Upper East Side of New York, Rufus once had an affair with Serena’s mother, socialite Lily van der Woodsen (Kelly Rutherford), who was once a groupie.

The First Amendment doesn’t grant complete freedom of speech at work or in business. 9 Tips from a Legal Perspective: For Employers & Employees

1.      Get the facts if you hear negative remarks about yourself, a subordinate or colleague. When someone says “John Doe isn’t a teams player.,” ask the person who says it to provide specific examples. Ask questions like: “Where did you hear this?” Keep notes, which will be valuable if you need to bring the matter to the human resources director. Let the HR director handle the issue, don’t try to handle it yourself.

2.      Be skeptical when a departing employee criticizes a boss or colleague as “unprofessional” or “hard to work with” it may just be sour grapes.

3.      Don’t repeat gossip you hear. Someone spreading slander is as liable as the person who started it.

4.      Set the tone at the top. Set a clear corporate policy on office gossip. One barring the spread of rumors about other employees.

5.      Put the policy in writing and regularly communicate it to employees. Create a corporate culture where gossip and rumor are unacceptable. For instance, one employer’s handbook states: “Employees will not knowingly or unintentionally make false statements about the company or any company employee during the period of time an employee is receiving payments from the employer.”

6.      Explain the policy. Discuss how gossip undermines morale, harm careers and may even result in lawsuits. Point out communication may halt and productivity decline because of gossip.

7.      Appeal to employees’ self-interest and sense of fairness. Discourage gossip, but don’t sound like you are trying to prevent normal conversations.

8.      Supervisor responsibility. Let supervisors know they’re responsible for controlling and correcting harmful gossip.

9. Don’t allow managers to ask leading questions. When reviewing their  subordinates for performance issues, managers should not say things that subtly suggest a supervisor or employee might being doing an inadequate job.

Celebrity scandals that are unearthed with the latest gossip are big money makers for the celebs and the spies. Tabloids pay big money for pictures of celebs – and listening to the latest gossip in celebrity circles can set a photographer up for an easy hundred thousand dollar picture. The lucky camera snapping souls who hang out in Hollywood can even make a living from just listening to the latest gossip on where the celebs are going and where they’re hanging out. A picture of Brittney Spears doing what everyone but the severely disabled do every day – walking – can fetch $250. A picture of her destroying something is worth $100,000. Brittney’s bald head brought one photographer $500,000. The latest gossip in the paparazzi coffee clatch reports that she supported her photographers by helping them earn a green four million dollars.

They filled their issues with pictures of these political celebs before the reputable newspapers could print a verified story.

The latest gossip on the sidewalks of Hollywood and in the Hollywood clubs is where the celebrity scandals begin. Gossip leads to inquiring minds, and curiosity catches the celebrity. Pictures of the celebs is all the proof that tabloids need for their billions of dollars of revenue they rake in every year.

Making money off celebrities does not come without its lawsuits. But every newspaper has their lawsuits for libel and scandal – and the National Enquirer’s lawsuits run at industry average. Why don’t more celebrities sue for the tabloid’s obnoxious reporting? Publicity. There’s nothing a celeb loves more than publicity.
